Michael Kwet

Michael Kwet is a Visiting Fellow of the Information Society Project at Yale Law School and received his PhD from Rhodes University in South Africa. He is the author of Digital colonialism: US empire and the new imperialism in the Global South (Race & Class), People's Tech for People's Power (Right2Know), and the host of the Tech Empire Podcast (Soundcloud / iTunes). He is editor of the forthcoming volume, The Cambridge Handbook of Race and Surveillance, due out in 2022 on Cambridge University Press.

Michael's work covers a variety of topics, from digital colonialism and surveillance technologies to education technology and how tech intersects with the environment. He has published in popular outlets like The New York Times, Al Jazeera, VICE News, The Intercept, Mail & Guardian, Wired, and Counterpunch.
